GEDLING MW...................2 (Ramadam 27,44)
HOLBROOK SPORTS..........1 (Finlay 19)
Ramadam headed double secures maximum points.
The home side had the better of the first quarter hour and absolutely tore Sports apart with good efforts by Warren Hatfield and Matt Peberday going close. Stephen Cox also had a header chalked off for offside. It was against the run of play when the away team scored a fine individual goal. Mark Finlay travelled some distance down the right flank and cut into the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot that whizzed into Ross Cherrys’ far corner.
The Miners were refusing to get drawn into some dubious niggles and petulance from the away team who were clearly feeling frustrated at some of Mr Vardy’s decisions.
The equaliser arrived 8 minutes later. Jamie Brown, who was posing all sorts of trouble for the Holbrook defence, was bought down out on the left. His accurate free kick was glanced home by defender Sham Ramadam up from the back. The lead should have been doubled on the half hour when Hatfield reacted first to a Karim Ibrahim knock down to fire just wide. A minute before the break and Ramadam scored his and the sides second. Yet another pinpoint cross, this time from a corner, by Brown was met by the big defender who beat Lillie all ends up with his header.
In the 56th minute Ramadam almost set up Cox with a headed pass, and again Hatfield failed to trouble the scorers with a couple of good efforts. Although Cherry had to be at his best to keep out a fine Ant Tansley volley, the Miners held on to consolidate their fourth position in the league table.
