GEDLING MW........3 (Peberday 51, Brown 62, Clarke 89)
BLACKWELL.........1 (Saxby 74)
Not pretty but effective as all three points gained at Plains Road.
An immaculately observed minutes silence was held before the kick off in memory of Greenwood Meadows' Matchday Secretary Mr. Colin Woodward who sadly passed away on Thursday.
The first half was a dour affair and not going according to recent form with the better chances falling to the away team. After an early Miners corner was cleared, the ball was carried the full length of the pitch by Oliver Shelton but his shot just cleared Walkers far post. The visitors had another chance to go ahead on 21 when a super ball in from the right fizzed across the goal to the far post where Ricki Saxby just failed to connect. Blackwell's centre-half David Leak looked to have scored after midway through the half but his header only found the side-netting. The home team could not get their passing game going and all too often their play broke down in the last third.
Gedling were much better from the start of the second half period, and Matt Peberday made a great solo run which ended with a shot that forced a diving save from Blackwell ‘keeper Adam Jabronksi. It didn’t take him long to open the scoring on 51, his second in successive games, latching onto a Jamie Brown cross from the left, and finishing at the second time of asking after Jabronski had blocked his first effort. Brown doubled the home team's lead 10 minutes later, firing home from 12 yards after being given too much time and space in the area after been put clear by Ash Winfield. Blackwell continued to play some good football, belying their position in the league table and scored the best goal of the game in the 74th minute when Saxby cut in from the left and fired home across Walker from an acute angle.
In the final minute, Gedling tied up the win and banked the three points. After yet another run into the box by the tireless Peberday, his pass found Shaun Clarke who spun and shot home into the far corner.
It was hardly a game for the purist on a bog of a pitch, but all three points safely recorded as the Miners move up to third. As for the visitors - slightly unfortunate not to take anything from a game where they never gave up and played some fine football which will surely augur well for the rest of their season.
